Condolences for Michael Haskins – A Letter form the Board of Directors
March 15, 2017
Dear Notre Dame Family and Friends,
We learned yesterday morning that a dear friend and colleague, Mr. Michael Haskins, passed away. Mr. Haskins was a Spanish and Psychology teacher at Notre Dame Junior and Senior High School. In addition to these important roles he served as the advisor for the Quiz Bowl teams and National Honor Society and worked during and after hours in other support roles to help the school and our children reach their fullest potential. He will be sadly missed.
The members of the Board of Trustees and the priests of Notre Dame Schools want to express our deepest sympathy to the Haskins family, his wife, Melissa, and their sons, Colin and Matthew. Our condolences and prayers are with each of them and with each of you who know them. Our hope is that they take comfort and pride in the lasting impact their husband and father has had on so many former and current students. We have been blessed by having him in our Notre Dame family.
Fr. Yokum and the priests led a prayer service at the high school in honor of Mr. Haskins yesterday. Grief counselors were also made available to the students and staff. Our appreciation goes out to the area priests; to Mrs. Arms, NDHS counselor; and to the Portsmouth City Schools for providing additional counseling support.
Please keep the Haskins family and the entire Notre Dame family in your prayers. Matthew 5:4 tells us, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” On behalf of the Notre Dame Schools Board of Trustees, I ask God’s blessing on each of you during this very difficult time and always.
